Gift to Zaporizhzhia x Kishmish winter-hardy

1. Selection direction:

Frost resistance, large-fruited, disease resistance, seedlessness.

2.Features: & nbsp;

Brief description of the parental couple. Description.

Gift to Zaporizhzhia. Large-fruited, disease resistance.

Seedless black winter-hardy. Frost resistance, seedlessness.

Hybrid combination scheme.

3. Implementation:

Hybridization was carried out in 2010 during the flowering of the grapes. Forced pollination of the maternal variety A gift from Zaporozhye with the pollen of the paternal variety Kishmish black winter-hardy. Pollination was carried out twice a day (morning and evening) for 7-10 days until the berries were completely set. No inflorescence isolation was applied.

A total of 312 hybrid seeds were obtained. When checking the viability "on the water", there were 279 seeds left. After stratification in winter and germination in January 2011, 149 seedlings were planted in cups. The seed germination rate of this hybrid combination is very high. During quenching & nbsp; seedlings on the street in the spring, a primary selection was made for resistance to mildew.

Planting of seedlings into the ground was carried out in 2011 - 96 seedlings. The next year, 53 were planted from the same seeds. A total of 149 seedlings were planted on the site. The seedlings of this hybrid combination are mostly vigorous, have good resistance to fungal diseases and frost. For the winter, seedlings do not hide from birth.

The first and rather amicable fruiting of hybrid forms was in 2013. Many forms from this combination had a signal size of berries from 6 to 12 grams and clusters of 300 to 600 grams. Later, with the age of the seedlings, the size characteristics of berries and bunches increased significantly.

The hybrid offspring of this combination is very diverse: in size, color and shape of the berry, in terms of ripening, yield and disease resistance.

Most of the seedlings have a pleasant harmonious taste, dense crunchy flesh. The seeds are medium to large. High cracking resistance. Resistance to fungal diseases is increased, at the level of 2.5-3 points on the scale of susceptibility.

Unfortunately, there were very, very few kishmish seedlings. This is not the main thing for me in breeding, but still I would like more. Based on the results of three fruiting, only one seedless seedling PZ х KishZim (411-11) was selected.

The first main selection of seedlings was done after the third fruiting in 2015. Vines were cut from the selected seedlings for the production of grafts on old vigorous bushes to test the hybrid forms under load.

Also, cut cuttings were used to test frost resistance in laboratory conditions by preliminary hardening and freezing in a freezer. The results of freezing cuttings can be found in the section "Test for frost resistance of grape cuttings ".

Frost resistance of hybrid forms in this combination is within - 27, - 28 gr.s. One of the most successful combinations in my selection.

4.Advantages:

Great vigor, good ripening of the vine, large fruit and productivity, disease resistance, frost resistance. Many forms keep well after ripening.

5. Disadvantages:

Very few seedlings of early maturity, many forms with a functionally female flower.

6. Primary selection:

In this hybrid combination, the following hybrid seedlings were selected by me to the elite for further study and testing in different climatic zones:Аlbina (88-11), Independence (414-11), Bila Tserkva (22-11), Marisha (203-11), Kuzma (31-11), Cyborg (311-11) and seedless Morozko (411-11).

7. Prospects:

The combination turned out to be very promising for breeding for the frost resistance of table grapes. For testing at the NSC “Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after V.E. Tairov ”9 hybrid forms were transferred.

In 2015: PZ х KishZim (22-11), PZ х KishZim (88-11), PZ х KishZim (338-11), PZ х KishZim (413-11), PZ х KishZim (419-11).

In 2017: PZ х KishZim (31-11), PZ х KishZim (150-11), PZ х KishZim (203-11), PZ х KishZim (414-11).

Two forms of grapes Albina and Belaya Tserkov were submitted for state variety testing in 2020.
